In the past, customers did not have the option
to buy natural gas at a competitive price from independent suppliers.
Terasen was the sole provider of natural gas
supply. In 2004, the natural gas market was deregulated for all
commercial customers on the Terasen BC Mainland supply network,
giving them the option of choosing their natural supplier.
As of May 1, 2007 residential customers on
Terasen's Mainland supply network now have the option to choose
a natural gas supplier other than Terasen under the CUSTOMER
CHOICE initiative.
Since 1987 CEG Energy Options Inc. has
been supplying natural gas to commercial, institutional, and industrial
gas users in Western Canada. CEG operates in British Columbia,
Alberta, and Saskatchewan.
